Dalcairney Falls After A winter Storm
The picturesque Dalcairney Falls is close to the Ayrshire village of Dalmellington and Loch Doon along a single track road. The last two hundred yards of road are unsurfaced, but there is a small rather muddy parking area at the falls. Be careful of the potholes. The size of the falls is dependent on the amount of rainfall.
River Doon flowing through the Ness Glen
The Ness Glen gorge is a wonderful walk at any time of year. The famous river Doon starts at the dam at the end of Loch Doon and flows all the way to the sea and the Firth of Clyde passing through Alloway. The river is mentioned in the poems of the bard Robert Burns in his poems Tam O' Shanter and Ye Banks and Braes/Banks O' Doon.
Ruin In The Mist
Here we have one of the two Dalquharran castles close to the Ayrshire village of Dailly. This is the new castle now abandoned designed and built by Robert Adam completed around 1790 and occupied until the 1960s. The old castle dates to around 1474. Both castles sit next to the Water of Girvan that enters the Firth of Clyde at the costal town of Girvan Ayrshire.
Days Of Heather
The start of the river Stinchar at Stinchar bridge, leading to the Stinchar Falls. Starting in Galloway, it eventually flows into the sea at The Ayrshire village of Ballantrae. Next to the Stinchar bridge, you find the car park for the Cornish Hill walk, including the Cornish Loch.
