Lonesome Muckle Stane Loch Trool➢ enter

This muckle stane (big stone) sits alone in the waters at the western end of Loch Trool down in wild Galloway. Down at the eastern end of the Loch is where Robert De Bruce King of Scots fought one of the early battles in the Scottish Wars of Independence.

I had to balance precariously on top of a tussock of grass to get separation from the beautiful Autumn colour of the larch and orange bracken in the background. Having to wade across marshy at both ends of the Loch it is easy to see how the English heavy horse became bogged down, treacherous stuff.
