This old oak tree on the banks of Loch Trool holding onto the very last of the Autumn colour. Glimpsed through the branches of the oak is the beautiful Galloway hillside the scene of a battle. One of the early battles in the First Scottish War  of Independence was fought there where Robert De Bruce defeated the English forces of Edward I at the battle of Glen Trool in April 1307.
